The Basic Sectional

The simplest form of a sectional sofa is composed of a chaise longue connected to a loveseat or sofa.

Right-Side Sitting If you are standing facing a sectional and the chaise is on the right, it is a right-arm facing chaise.

Left-Side Sitting If you are standing facing a sectional and the chaise is on the left, it is a left-arm facing chaise.

  • When you enter the room, it is usually more inviting and preferable to have the chaise longue at the far end of the room. If you wish to use the sectional to separate two distinct living spaces, then the opposite will apply and the chaise longue will serve as your barrier.
  • The second problem to be resolved is whether to use a cocktail table or an ottoman. Keep in mind that often an ottoman with a serving tray can fill both functions.

Larger and Complex Sectionals

Larger sectional can be composed of numerous different components.  They can be extended with slipper chairs or armless loveseats.  They can have rounded or square corner pieces.  They can incorporate a chaise longue or you can use an ottoman which is movable and allows the possibility of creating a chaise longue out of your favorite seat.
